Celebrating 175 years at Grand Hotel Kronenhof, Pontresina – Evolving a timeless classic

The historic Grand Hotel Kronenhof is celebrating 175 years in its home of Pontresina, Switzerland. Commemorating this milestone, the elegant grand dame, continues to evolve as it enters a new era; with interior design renovations overseen by world-famous French designer Pierre – Yves Rochon including the new Kronenhof suite and a further ten rooms and suites, elevating the timeless classic with lighter, fresh colour palettes.

The evolution of a timeless classic

Designer Pierre- Yves Rochon began the renovations in 2016 combining contemporary touches with the traditional aspects of the hotel, adding modern finishes such as green granite bathrooms and stainless-steel accents coexisting with a historic restoration of the main spaces of the hotel including the reception, lobby and billiards room. The timeless colour scheme of black and white complemented with taupe and blue perfectly marries tradition with modernity. This is further enhanced in the third and current stage with geometric motifs and fabrics chosen to modernise this classic colour palette. Amongst the additional rooms and suites added during this renovation, the two-bedroom Kronenhof suite is flooded with natural light with all the facilities of a private apartment within the hotel. With an “experiential” bar inspired by a leather travel trunk and contemporary furniture connecting its public spaces.

With a scattering of art throughout the hotel, local artists have their work showcased in a curated collection with Galerie Durst exemplifying the talent of the locals who have had such a close connection with the hotel over its 175-year history.
